Beyond marketing and commercial aspects, knowing where to steer to allow a town to become more smart and sustainable can be a headache for policymakers! Nowadays, technical solutions exist. They nevertheless struggle to meet the expectations and needs of municipalities. In relation to all strategic projects in Seraing -The Master Plan, the social Master Plan, the Master Park, the Remourban project, the creative hub, etc.- these workshops aim to address and assess how smart technologies will, in the future, make cities most efficient in the management of energy and resources, more connected and more livable for citizens. They are organized in the form of a breakfast workshop and bring together technical decision makers of the cities, an academic, expert in the topic discussed and companies. These latter will also better understand the needs and expectations of cities, to offer in return better tailored solutions.
The first workshop was held in early June 2016 with the theme "intelligent street lighting, a business model and a solution for security?". The city of Seraing and GRE Liège, the grid operator, 4 lighting companies, Mr Pr Destiné, from University of Liège and Agoria, the federation of technology industries attended the meeting. 2 hours of talk helped to learn more about existing technologies, associated costs, barriers to implementation encountered, advantages and disadvantages of a smart lighting system ... Perhaps the opportunity for Seraing to establish in the short term, a smart public lighting in a pilot area of the city? Reflection is underway...
