In the city of Seraing, five public spaces have been selected in order to allow users and consumers to surf free of charge : the Quatre Grands place (Jemeppe), the Esplanade de l’Avenir and the Kuborn Place (Seraing city centre), the Pairay Place as well as the Merlot Place (neighbourhood « Biens communaux »).
These spots have been selected according to the very large number of visitors/users and shops in the surrounding area. Local shops will also make use of this service for their customers.
In the future, the city will also make use of the public wifi in order to promote local businesses and shops. Apps will be developed in order to provide guidance to customers according to available shops, to expand the e-commerce, to disseminate news about local shops or even to set up a proper community of users in the targeted commercial zones.
The public wifi project is supported by the Walloon region and it provides an additional impetus to the ongoing urban regeneration process in Seraing promoted by the REMOURBAN project. REMOURBAN sees the involvement of the AREBS (Association pour le Redéploiement Économique du Bassin Sérésien).
