On Wednesday February 1st, the CSC trade union of the Liège region (where Seraing is located) organised a conference on “Smart cities and smart companies” as part of the RISE network, inter-union network on environmental awareness, and of the training of union delegates.
The AREBS, the economic development agency of Seraing, was invited to present the Smart City strategy of the city of Seraing and, more specifically, the REMOURBAN project, where Seraing is follower and leader on replication. Jacques Germay, CEO of the MecaTech Cluster, the Walloon competitiveness cluster on mechanical engineering that brings together companies, research centres and training facilities, was the other speaker.
With over 40 participants, the conference was a key way to address major issues for the future of the region of Liège around new technologies, links between territory, companies, trade unions, and citizens. Jacques Germay presented the outlooks in the fields of the digital economy and automation and, particularly to keep and provide new employment opportunities around smart technologies.
The evening was also a good opportunity to raise the awareness of participants on the issue of smart cities and the impacts of SC projects on the development of the region and of the local economic fabric: an interesting exchange for all stakeholders!
