Eskişehir is one of the important cities of Anatolian civilization and also historical, economic and cultural factors of Eskişehir play an active role in Turkey. The name Eşkisehirmeans “Old City” in Turkish
Eskişehir is an intersection point of it has a significant importance for transportation through major cities like Ankara and Istanbul. The city also known as a university city, there are two major universities named Anadolu University and Osmangazi University with 40.000 students. It has a multicultural and active socio-economic structure; symposiums, exhibitions, scientific activities, dance, music, cinema and theatre festivals have been organized regularly in Eskisehir.
Eskisehir is located in the mid-western side of Anatolia. The Porsuk River which is a branch of one of the largest rivers in Turkey named Sakarya, divides the city into half. Tepebasi is located in the northern side of the river. According to 2013 census, the population of the Eskisehir is approximately 760.000 and Tepebasi is 315,000.In Eskişehir there are two second-level municipalities in addition of metropolitan municipality. Up to 1993 Tepebaşı was a part of Eskişehir municipality. In 1993, the municipality of Tepebaşı was established within Eskişehir metropolitan center.
Tepebasi Municipality’s main vision is creating a healthy, sustainable and liveable environment for all of its citizens. Municipalityalwayssupportsandproducesnewprojectstofulfillthisobjective. Our strategic plan involves taking actions to achieve energy sufficiency, protect the nature and increase awareness for sustainable way of living. We signed Covenant of Mayors in 2013 and submitted a Sustainable Energy Action Plan to decrease carbon emissions for %23 in 2014 in this context. Our other projects, Ecological Bazaar (2009) Energy Efficient Building for Low-Carbon Footprint (2012), solar charge units for mobile phones (2014), solar irrigation system in rural areas (2014) and the newest one which is still in the construction phase, Energy Efficient Green Water sports Center (2015) support our strategy.
